Jewellery Care
Each piece of jewellery is thoughtfully designed and carefully handmade. The nature of my work means that many designs are delicate by intention, celebrating fine detail, surface texture, and traditional techniques. With the right care, your jewellery can be worn, loved, and passed down for years to come.
General Care
Remove your jewellery before sleeping, exercising, bathing, or swimming.
Avoid contact with perfumes, lotions, hairspray, cleaning products, and chemicals.
Store pieces separately in a soft pouch or jewellery box to prevent scratching or tangling.
Put jewellery on last and take it off first when getting ready.
Oxidised Jewellery
Oxidisation is a surface treatment that darkens silver to enhance texture and detail. Over time and with wear, oxidisation will naturally soften and lighten—this is part of its beauty.
Avoid polishing cloths on oxidised areas, as they will remove the darkened finish.
Store oxidised pieces away from friction to help preserve the surface.
I’m always happy to re-oxidise your jewellery free of charge if you’d like to refresh its finish.
Keum Boo (Gold Foil on Silver)
Keum boo is a traditional technique where fine gold is bonded to silver. While durable, it is still a surface layer and should be treated with care.
Avoid friction and abrasion, especially when stacking with other pieces.
Do not use polishing cloths or abrasive cleaners on keum boo areas.
Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth only.
Gold-Plated Jewellery
Gold plating is a surface finish and will naturally wear over time, especially on rings and pieces worn frequently.
Avoid water, chemicals, and friction to extend the life of the plating.
Remove plated jewellery before washing hands or applying products.
Please note: I’m happy to polish your jewellery free of charge, but re-plating will incur an additional cost.
Jewellery with Stones
Gemstones vary in hardness and durability, and even harder stones can chip or crack if knocked.
Avoid impact or pressure, especially on stone-set rings.
Do not wear stone-set jewellery during physical activity or manual work.
Clean gently using a soft cloth; avoid soaking unless advised.
If you ever notice a stone feeling loose, stop wearing the piece and get in touch as soon as possible.
A Final Note
Your jewellery is made to be worn and enjoyed, but its delicate nature means it benefits from a little extra care and attention. Treating it gently will help preserve its beauty and integrity for years to come.
If your jewellery ever needs a refresh, repair, or some extra love, please don’t hesitate to get in touch, I’m always happy to help.
