The rosette is a motif I kept coming across in decorative borders, tucked into corners, repeated along edges, quietly holding a pattern together without ever really being noticed.
I approached it in exactly the same way I approach the acanthus: extracting the motif from the object it was decorating, simplifying it right down, and then forming it into something of its own. From there I build up the decorative layers, roller printing the silver with sandpaper to give it texture, adding 24ct gold foil through the ancient Korean technique of keum boo, and finally oxidising the surface so the gold sits bright against the black.
Small enough to wear every day, and a lovely way to carry a little piece of ornament around with you.
